Richmond County is a located in the Northern Neck of the Commonwealth of Virginia with a population over 9,000. Richmond County is an hour's drive outside of the city of Richmond, Virginia.
York County was established in 1634 as one of the original counties of the Virginia Colony. It was merged Northumbria County, which was established in 1648, to form the new Lancaster County in 1651. A section of Lancaster County became Rappahannock County in 1656, and Rappahannock was divided into two in 1691, forming Richmond County and Essex County.
The Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge is located in Richmond County.
